Winskill Dolphins Name Rushton Head Coach

TSAWWASSEN, B.C., Aug. 15. TOM Rushton, a former member of the Winskill Dolphins Swim Club, has been hired by the Dolphins as their new head coach. Rushton returns to the program after working with the New Zealand national team during the Pan Pacific Championships being held this summer in Victoria.

Rushton swam for the Winskill team from 1992-97 before heading south of the border to compete for Kenyon College winning 11 NCAA titles during his career. Most recently, he attended Indiana University working in conjunction with the Counsilman Center for the Science of Swimming while completing a master's degree program.

"It is exciting to be involved with this team again." Rushton said. "I am impressed with the enthusiasm of the parents I've met with so far. Every one I have spoken to has high expectations and visions for what we can do here in the next few years. The wonderful communities of Ladner and Tsawwassen combined with great facilities make this a spectacular place to be a coach."

The team has had a tradition of excellence in the pool developing swimmers who have competed at international level competition. During the 2005-06 season, the club had several swimmers attend the Age Group Nationals in Calgary, Alberta while the team's top performer, Megan Clark, qualified for the 2006 Pan Pacific Trials in Montreal, Quebec.
