Wildcats Get Verbal from Local Arizona DIII State Champion Skylar Dikeman

NEW COMMIT: The University of Arizona has picked up a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from in-state backstroker Skylar Dikeman of Tucson.

Dikeman, who owns the Olympic Trials cut in the 200m back, swims year-round with Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics and capped off an extremely successful long course season by placing 11th in the 200m back at Junior Nationals this past summer. Last winter, she took fourth in the 100 back at Arizona Seniors before going on to earn a trio of best times at NCSAs.

Also competing for Sabino High School, Dikeman is a six-time Arizona DIII State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 50 free and was the 100 back runner-up during both her sophomore and junior seasons after earning bronze in both of those events during her rookie campaign.

She told Swimming World:

100 back – 56.06/1:04.06
200 back – 2:01.13/2:14.53 (Olympic Trials cut)
50 free – 23.80/27.46

Dikeman has made continuous improvements each season and she’ll surely see some major time drops this short course season after her stellar summer. When she suits up for the Wildcats as a member of the class of 2024, she’ll add her talents to a backstroke training group led by Aria Bernal and Axana Merckx.
