Whildin Reunited with Maurer at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif., USA, August 23. STILL in the early stages of her tenure as the head coach of the women’s program at Stanford, Lee Maurer has named Shane Whildin as an assistant coach. By hiring Whildin, Maurer went with a familiar face, as both individuals worked together at Scout Aquatics in Lake Forest, Illinois. Maurer founded the club in 2002.

"I am honored to be a part of Stanford's elite swimming and diving program and have the opportunity to continue my coaching career alongside of Coach Maurer," said Whildin.

As an athlete, Whildin competed at the University of Missouri and twice earned the Missouri Team Leadership Award. A two-time qualifier for the United States Olympic Trials, Whildin excelled in the 100 butterfly. He joins a Stanford squad with significant talent, led by the presence of Olympians Caroline Bruce, Kristen Caverly and Dana Kirk.

"We are excited that Shane is joining us at Stanford," said Maurer, who has taken the reins at her alma mater from the legendary Richard Quick. "He is an enthusiastic and caring coach that does an outstanding job helping swimmers reach their goals. I believe that since we have worked together before it gives us a leg up on a strong first year on The Farm."
