Westminster Swimming Teams Remain Unbeaten in PAC

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. December, 10. THE Westminster College men's & women's swimming teams each remained unbeaten in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action this afternoon at the Natatorium, as the Titans and Lady Titans swept a dual meet with PAC foe Bethany College. The Titan men (5-0-1, 2-0 PAC) remained unbeaten with a 103-66 win over the Bison, while the Lady Titans (5-1, 2-0 PAC) also won, 108-56.

On the men's side, junior Pat Smith (South Park/South Park H.S.) led the way with three wins for the Titans as he touched first in both the 200 (1:53.28) and 500 freestyle (5:07.82) while swimming a leg for the victorious 200 freestyle relay team (1:31.65). Juniors Ryan Trunk (Brookline, MA/Cheshire Academy H.S.) and Lee Knight (Boardman, OH/Boardman H.S.) were each double winners, as both joined Smith on the 200 free relay while adding individual wins – Trunk in the 50 freestyle (21.72) and Knight in the 100 backstroke (1:00.16).

The Westminster women had a pair of triple winners in junior Megan McLaughlin (Wooster, OH/Wooster H.S.) and sophomore Becky Giles (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop H.S.). McLaughlin anchored both winning relays (200 medley, 1:57.42; 200 freestyle, 1:44.91) while capturing the 200 individual medley (2:18.69). Giles joined McLaughlin on the winning 200 free relay team while also posting the top times in both the 100 backstroke (1:03.63) and 200 freestyle (2:04.96).

Both Westminster swim teams are off until their Florida winter training trip, culminating with a tri-meet with Wingate at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., on January 9, 2006 at 1 p.m.
