Westminster Swimming Teams Post Sweep of Grove City College In Home Opener

NEW WILMINGTON, Penn., November 19. THE Westminster College men's and women's swimming team each opened their 2003-04 home and Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet schedules tonight at the Westminster Natatorium. The Titans and Lady Titans each improved to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in PAC play, with a sweep of visiting Grove City College. The WC men posted a 123-82 win, while the Lady Titans were also victorious 121-84.

On the men's side, Westminster was paced by a pair of triple winners and two double winners. Sophomore Josh Hensler (Pittsburgh/South Park
H.S.) captured both the 200 IM (2:02.49) and 200 breaststroke (2:18.19) while swimming a leg on the winning 400 medley relay team (3:49.19), while freshman Pat Smith (South Park/South Park H.S.) added wins in the 200 backstroke (2:04.32) and 1000 freestyle (10:28.16) as well as swimming a leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:24.81). Double winners included sophomore Nate Horrell (Ligonier/Ligonier Valley H.S.) in the 200 butterfly (2:13.60) and on the 400 medley relay, and freshman Jason Hall (Lower Burrell/Burrell H.S.) on both winning relay teams.

For the Lady Titans, four swimmers were double winners against GCC. Senior Brittany Jardine (Allison Park/North Allegheny H.S.) and freshmen Sara Bonchosky (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands H.S.) and Megan McLaughlin (Wooster, OH/Wooster H.S.) all swam on the victorious 400 freestyle relay team (3:47.40) while adding individual wins – Jardine in the 50 freestyle (25.83), Bonchosky in the 100 freestyle (55.58) and McLaughlin in the 200 backstroke (2:15.74). Also, frosh Emily Staniszewski (Pittsburgh/South Park H.S.) added wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:40.06) and as a member of the winning 400 medley relay squad (4:17.53).
