Westminster College In Second Place After Day 1 of President’s Athletic Confrence Championships

NEW WILMINGTON, Penn, February 13. THE Westminster College men's and women's swimming teams are each in second place out of four teams after the first day of competition of the three-day 2004 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Grove City College in conjunction with the GCC Invitational.

The host Wolverines lead on the men's side with 212 points, followed by Westminster (193), Washington & Jefferson (172) and Bethany (87). In women's action, GCC holds a narrow one-point lead over Westminster (222-221), while Washington & Jefferson is close behind (211).

On the women's side, the highlight was the team of freshmen Sara Bonchosky (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands H.S.) and Megan McLaughlin (Wooster, OH/Wooster H.S.) and seniors Megan Lytle (Clearfield/Clearfield Area H.S.) and Brittany Jardine (Allison Park/North Allegheny H.S.), which captured the 200 freestyle relay in a
school- and conference-record time of 1:39.66. The mark broke the old school record of 1:39.95 set in 2001. McLaughlin (photo attached) also touched first in the 200 individual medley (2:15.74), while the Lady Titan 400 medley relay team of Megan Sweithelm (Indiana/Indiana H.S.), Emily Staniszewski (Pittsburgh/South Park H.S.), Amy Wirtz (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley H.S.) and Bonchosky was also victorious (4:04.65).

Freshman Ryan Trunk (Brookline, MA/Cheshire Academy H.S.) (photo
attached) led the Titan men with three victories. Trunk captured the 50 freestyle (21.56) while anchoring both of Westminster winning relay
teams: the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.04) and the 400 medley relay (3:35.68). Other 200 free relay team members included sophomore B.J. Sieg (Mingoville/Bellefonte Area H.S.), junior Kevin Gesacion (Boardman, OH/Boardman H.S.), and sophomore Nate Horrell (Ligonier/Ligonier Valley H.S.). The other members of the 400 medley relay team included freshman Pat Smith (South Park/South Park H.S.), and sophomores Andy Hudak (Berea, OH/Berea H.S.) and Horrell.
