MACOMB – Head coach Greg Naumann announced the signing of five newcomers on Thursday (April 30) heading into the 2015-16 season. The five newcomers join Erica Hagen and Amanda Schaefer, who signed in November. The Leathernecks look to build off of a successful 2014-15 campaign, in which the team broke 11 program records. This comes after Western broke 16 records during the 2013-14 season.

Haley Locke – Canton, Ohio

Locke looks to add depth to the women’s team across all events. Locke swam a 55.93 in the 100 freestyle during her senior year. The Canton, Ohio native finished the 100 butterfly in 1:00.42, and touched the wall in the 100 backstroke in 58.93.

Coach Naumann: Haley is going to add a lot of versatility to our team. She has the ability to be a butterflier, backstroker, and sprint freestyle. I also anticipate her making a large contribution to our relays at the Summit League Championships. Haley has a strong competitive drive and a fun attitude, which should blend well with our returners.

Josh Hill – Clinton, Iowa

Hill joins Western Illinois after finishing 12th in the 2015 Iowa Boys District Meet in the 50 Free (21.80). Hill also finished 13th in the 100 Free at the same event (47.39). Hill can also swim the butterfly, finishing 13th at the state meet with a time of 53.28.

Coach Naumann: Josh will add more depth and strength to our butterfly and sprint freestyle groups. He was able to really drop his sprint times this past year, so I anticipate him really taking off in our program next year. I have had the opportunity to know and work with Josh in the past, and he has always been a great teammate. I look forward to working with Josh again to help our team build on our record breaking trend.

Nick Bonneville – La Grange, Illinois

Bonneville joins Western following his best performance in the 50 freestyle at the 2015 Illinois Senior Championships. Bonneville touched the wall in 21.67 seconds, earning him a 20th place finish. Bonneville also competed in the 100 and 200 freestyle, finishing in 46.05 second and 1:41.35 respectively.

Coach Naumann: Nick is going to be a tremendous sprint freestyle and backstroker for us next year. Nick will be our tallest guy next year, and quite possibly one of the lightest. This means that he has a lot of room to build a lot of muscle to help make him even faster. Nick is definitely one of those diamonds in the rough that I love to work with.

John Michael Hall – Peachtree City, Georgia

John Michael recorded a 50 freestyle time to 21.49 and his 100 freestyle time to 46.90. He has also finished the 100 backstroke in 52.69 seconds at the Georgia Senior Short Course.

Coach Naumann: John Michael will add some greatly need speed and depth to our backstroke training group. He is coming from a small club program that doesn’t have a strong strength training component, which will be a dramatic change for John Michael. He will definitely gain a lot of strength in his freshman year, which will help make him that much faster.

Seth Brady – Des Moines, Iowa

Another freestyle specialist, Brady joins Western from Des Moines, Iowa. Brady recently finished 14th at the Iowa State Championships, touching the wall in 1:46.55 in the 200 freestyle. Brady’s best 50 freestyle time is 21.6 seconds in 2015, which came in the 200 freestyle relay. At the same meet, Brady swam a 47.63 second split in the 400 freestyle relay.

Coach Naumann: Seth is going to bring in some sprint freestyle speed for us next year. We will start to graduate some of our school record holders after next year, so it will definitely be great having Seth in next year and able to train with those guys. I anticipate Seth getting a lot stronger like all of our freshman do, and transferring that into his sprint free events. He has the times of Tyler Neaveill his freshman year, so I hope to see Seth end up as quick as Tyler.
