West Virginia Receives Verbal From Harna Minezawa

NEW COMMIT: Mason, Ohio native Harna Minezawa has announced her verbal commitment to West Virginia as a member of the class of 2023.

Minezawa competes year-round with Mason Manta Rays and concluded her long course season with a pair of personal bests at TYR Pro Swim Series – Columbus. She won the 50 fly (24.56) at ISCA Junior Nationals in March and finaled in the 100 fly (55.28) at Junior Nationals East last December.

Also representing Mason High School for the past two season, Minezawa is a four-time finalist at the Ohio State Championships and placed sixth in the 50 free (23.66) and seventh in the 100 fly (56.04) as a junior. During her sophomore campaign, she took seventh in the 50 free (23.80) and sixth in the 100 fly (55.67).

She told Swimming World:

“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at West Virginia University! I can’t wait to be part of such an amazing school and program! Go Mountaineers!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.34
  • 100 free – 52.21
  • 200 free – 1:55.94
  • 100 fly – 54.76
  • 100 back – 59.06

Minezawa will be extremely valuable when she suits up for the Mountaineers beginning in the fall of 2019.  She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 50 free and 100 fly at the 2018 Big 12 Championships. West Virginia finished second in the team standings at last season’s conference meet.
