Washington Girls 2A, 3A High School State Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, November 17. AT the Washington Girls 2A/3A High School State Championships, Squalicum and Mercer Island walked away with state titles. Squalicum won the 2A meet with 77 points followed by Sehome (68) and Hockinson (59). With 246.5 points, Mercer Island won the 3A meet. Juanita took second (242) and Kennedy placed third (204).

2A Results
Hockinson won two of three relays. Bailee Christenson, Kyra Oja, Julia Sanders, and Darien Hiller won the 200 medley relay (1:54.87). Sanders was a dual event winner in the 200 IM (2:11.38) and the 100 butterfly. She set a meet record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.88.

Sophomore Katie Kaestner (Anacortes) had individual wins in the 100 freestyle (53.41) and the 100 breaststroke. She set a meet record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.27. The previous record (1:06.78) was set last year by Fife's Nakayla Chan.

Hiller, Christenson, Oja, and Sanders teamed up for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.97).

Top finishers in the diving competition include Mallorie Estenson (Anacortes) (300.90), Asha Srivastava (River Ridge) (262.85), and Rosalie Corrigan (Archbishop Murphy) (261.30).

Sehome's Ali Fisher won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.09. She teamed up with Michelle Lam, Anastasia Miksovsky, and Megan McGuire for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:47.86).

3A Results
Grace Wold, Lauren Poli, Madeleine Chandless, and Stephanie Hammond (Mercer Island) teamed up for a win in the 200 medley relay (1:50.11).

Columbia River's Jessica Bottelberghe had individual wins in the 200 IM (2:07.52) and the 100 butterfly (56.49).

Senior Emilie Kaufman (Juanita) took first in the 50 freestyle (23.96) and the 100 breaststroke (1:03.21).

Kelly Tannhauser (Juanita) won the 500 freestyle (5:01.59). She joined Kaufman, Amanda Wilson, and Rachel Kurtz in the 200 freestyle relay. The girls set a state record with a time of 1:37.77. The previous record (1:37.95) was set by Bellevue in 1999.

Celia Pinczower won the diving competition with a score of 394.10. Ashley Knox and Paige Greely of Kennedy took second (368.60) and third (348.20) respectively.

Kaufman, Hanna Armstrong, Kurtz, and Tannhauser closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:35.35).
