Washington Boys 2A/3A High School State Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, February 22. SEHOME and Mercer Island walked away with state titles at the Washington Boys 2A/3A High School State Championships. Sehome won the 2A meet with 124 points followed by Interlake (74) and Pullman (73). At the 3A meet, Mercer Island tallied 396 points for first while Bellevue took second (188) and Lakeside (Seattle) placed third (171).

2A Results
Sehome won two of three relays. Jordan Fish, Austin Fish, Casey Klipsch, and Patrick Gregory set a meet record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.57. J. Fish also won the 500 freestyle (5:01.20).

Aberdeen's Erik Larson won the 50 (22.14) and 100 freestyles. He set a meet record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.64. The previous record (49.55) was set last year by Sehome's Alex Thon.

Senior Ryley Pearson (Burlington-Edison) was a dual event winner in the 100 butterfly (52.77) and the 100 backstroke. He tied with Interlake's Victor Hsiao in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.02. Both boys surpassed the meet record (54.55) set last year by J. Fish.

Pullman won the 200 freestyle relay. The foursome of Ian McInturff, Christopher Li, Daniel Hawbaker, and Ryan Wilson set a meet record with a time of 1:31.33. The previous record (1:31.58) was set last year by Sehome.

A. Fish set meet records in the 200 IM (1:54.56) and the 100 breaststroke (59.21). The previous 200 IM record (1:57.88) was set last year by Hockinson's Callumn Mackintosh.

Top finishers in the diving competition include: Brian Drake (Squalicum) (333.40), Rylan Korby (Squalicum) (254.80), and Michael Evans (River Ridege) (250.35).

Thon, Ryan Newell, Klipsch, and A. Fish set a state record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:18.46.

3A Results
Mercer Island won all three relays. Taylor Seidel, Jimmy Deiparine, Quinn Markwith, and Duncan Howard won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.05. Deiparine also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.17.

Eastside Catholic's Ethan Hallowell was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:40.48) and 100 (45.67) freestyles.

Sophomore Aki McFarlane (Peninsula) had individual wins in the 50 freestyle (21.36) and the 100 backstroke (52.20).

Ian Fisk, Will Voit, Howard, and Robbie Homchick won the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.58).

Troy Neklason won the diving competition with 415.85 points. Austin Fahrenholtz (Port Angeles) and Nick Peterson (Port Angeles) followed with scores of 308.95 and 302.75, respectively.

Other first-place finishers include Chase Goulart (Mount Si) in the 200 IM (1:56.49), Than Maudslien (Kennedy) in the 100 butterfly (50.81), and Andre McCarthy (Bainbridge) in the 500 freestyle (4:38.71).

Theo Danciu, Howard, Andy Wingerson, and Fisk clocked a time of 3:13.11 for a win in the 400 freestyle relay.
