Vlad Morozov on Fire, Sets Second National High School Sprint Mark — Updated with Mark Spitz Statement
LONG BEACH, California, May 18. AT the CIF Masters meet, Torrance's Vlad Morozov claimed his second national high school record in the past few days with an astonishing effort in the men's 100-yard free.
Morozov clocked a splendid time of 42.87 as his squad's 400-yard free relay leadoff to become the first high school swimmer under 43. The swim was done at the Southern Section Masters meet at the Belmont Plaza pool. His performance wiped Winston Churchill's Jimmy Feigen completely out of the high school record books after clearing his 50-yard free on May 15 with a 19.43. Tonight's 42.87 beat Feigen's national mark of 43.05 set the same day as his previous 50 free mark of 19.49.
Olympic legend Mark Spitz was in attendance, and said Morozov's swim in the 100 free was "unbelieveable."
