NEW COMMIT: Newark, Delaware distance ace Chase Travis has announced her verbal commitment to Virginia Tech as a member of the class of 2024. She will join her older sister, Brooke Travis, who will arrive in Blacksburg this fall.

Travis does her club swimming with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and owns nine Winter Juniors (or faster) time standards. She placed third in the mile, fifth in the 800m free and seventh in the 400m free at Winter Nationals in November and recorded a trio of lifetime bests at the Tom Dolan Invite in December. She concluded her summer long course season with an eighth-place showing in the mile at Phillips 66 Nationals.

A true distance specialist, Travis has seen great success in open water swimming. As a member of the United States National Team for Open Water, she earned gold the 7.5K at the 2018 U.S. Open Water Nationals and finished fifth in the 10K. She then went on to represent Team USA at the 2018 FINA Open Water World Junior Championships in Israel where she won the 7.5K.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:49.38
  • 500 free – 4:41.75
  • 1000 free – 9:31.84
  • 1650 free – 16:06.01

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Hokies, Travis’ best times would’ve scored in the A-final of the 500 free and placed fourth in the mile at the 2018 ACC Championships while just shy of scoring at the NCAA level. Travis currently ranks 18th all-time in the girls’ 15-16 age group for the 1500m free and ninth all-time in the 1000 free.
