NEW COMMIT: Dahlgren, Va. backstroker Caroline Bentz has announced her in-state verbal commitment to Virginia Tech and will join the Hokies as a member of the class of 2024.

Bent does her club swimming with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and owns the U.S. Open standard in both backstroke events. She most recently competed at NCAP’s Tom Dolan Invite where she won the 200 back and achieved six personal best times. She placed fifth in the 100m back at at Winter Nationals earlier this month en route to achieving the 2020 Olympic Trials cut and won the 200m back at Virginia LCM Seniors in July.

Also competing for King George High School, Bentz is a four-time Virginia 4A State Championship finalist. She won the 100 back and placed third in the 100 free as a junior after finishing second in both the 50 free and 100 free during her sophomore season. Bentz has also earned NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.11
  • 100 back – 53.98
  • 200 back – 1:56.63
  • 50 free – 23.34
  • 100 free – 51.53

When she suits up for the Hokies at the start of the 2020-21 season, Bentz will add her talents to a backstroke group that includes Reka GyorgyEmily Meilus and Margarita Ryan. Both her best 100 back and 200 back times would’ve scored in the C-final at the 2018 ACC Championships where Virginia Tech finished seventh overall in the team standings.
