Virginia Scores 2025 Verbal From Olympic Trials Qualifier Sylvia Roy
NEW COMMIT: Olympic Trials qualifier Sylvia Roy of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has pledged her verbal commitment to the University of Virginia beginning in Fall 2025.
She will join Madi Mintenko in Charlottesville as a member of the Cavaliers’ Class of 2029.
She told Swimming World:
“I chose the school for so many reasons, but it was the team environment that really sealed the deal.”
A backstroker, Roy trains year-round with Mount Lebanon Aqua Club and earned bronze in the 200m back this past summer at Junior Nationals while winning the B-final of the 100m back. She placed 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 100m and 200m back at the U.S. Open last fall and won the 100m back at Buffalo Sectionals in March.
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 54.28
- 200 back – 1:56.43
- 50 free – 22.72
- 100 free – 50.10
Currently a junior at Mt. Lebanon High School, Roy won the 100 back and took second in the 50 free at the 2023 Pennsylvania 3A State Championships. She earned respective fifth- and sixth-place finishes in those events during her freshman season.
She’s also a four-time WPIAL District 7 AAA champion.
The Cavaliers are the two-time defending national champions.
