CHRISTIANSBURG, Virginia, March 2. THE Virginia Independent School State Championships took place February 18-19 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, and was broadcast LIVE and on-demand by SwimmingWorld.TV.

Girls Results
NSA's Gabriel Bishop and COOL's Mary Katherine Kish each brought home double victories. Kish took first in the 200 IM (2:06.77) and 500 free (4:59.42), while Bishop swept the 100 fly (56.62) and 100 free (51.06). Meanwhile, STCA's Kate Bassett won the 50 free in 23.50, and teammate Sommer Harris finished first in the 100 breast (1:06.21). SGHS's Allison Titley won the 200 free in 1:51.41, while NCS' Jackie Crawford earned first in the 100 back (57.18).

STCA ended up sweeping the relays, in large part due to the efforts of Bassett and Harris. Elaine Farmer, Cabell Doswell, Jane Nester, and Bassett won the 200 free relay (1:39.26), while Nester, Lacy Jennings, Doswell, and Bassett took the 400 free relay in 3:36.55. Harris, Anne Thomas Steele, Jennings, and Farmer also took first in the 200 medley relay (1:50.06).

Boys Results
COOL's Stephen Thomas doubled up in the 200 (1:37.20) and 500 free (4:30.23). NA's Ben Leach took the 100 free (46.84), NCS' Austin Criss the 100 back (51.67), and Saints' Conor MacNair the 100 breast (58.73).

WFS' Zach Switzer won the 200 IM (1:54.61), while teammate James Crabb took first in the 100 fly (49.44). The team of Switzer, Heath Allen, Crabb, and Jack Pidgeon won the 200 medley relay (1:34.42), while Crabb, Nick Hoffman, Pidgeon, and Switzer outswam the field in the 400 free relay, clocking 3:11.44. Meanwhile, FUMA's Tim Zoltowski finished first in the 50 free (20.86), and joined Martin Gunderson, Obi Okeyo, and Blake Sundel to win the 200 free relay in 1:25.10.
