Virginia Class 2 100 Free Record Holder Reese Dunkenberger Gives Verbal Pledge to Tulane

NEW COMMIT: Tulane University has added another verbal pledge for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Reese Dunkenberger of Elliston, Va.

She will join Phoenix, Az. native Sam Krew in New Orleans as a member of the Green Wave’s class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Tulane University! Thank you to everyone who has supported me in this process! Roll wave!! 🌊”

A talented freestyler and backstroker, Dunkenberger does her club swimming with Virginia Gators and set eight new best times at TYR Junior Nationals in March 2019 where her highest finish was a 15th-place showing in the 50 back. Last summer, she raced three events at Virginia LCM Seniors before going on to final in three races at TYR Summer Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.74
  • 100 free – 52.30
  • 200 free – 1:54.74
  • 50 back – 26.92
  • 100 back – 58.22
  • 200 back – 2:09.31

Also competing for Glenvar High School, Dunkenberger is a six-time Virginia Class 2 State Championship finalist. She won the 100 free and was the runner-up in the 100 back during both her sophomore and junior seasons while taking second and fourth, respectively, in those events as a freshman.

She set the Class 2 record in the 100 free with a time of 52.30 in 2019.
