Virginia Begins 2024 Recruiting With Verbal From Junior National Finalist Harry Belcher

NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has officially entered the Class of 2024 recruiting game, receiving a verbal commitment from in-state standout Harry Belcher of Richmond, Va., who will arrive in Charlottesville as a member of the Hoos’ Class of 2028.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Virginia. I chose UVA because of the outstanding coaching staff, the incredible team energy, and the amazing academic opportunities. I want to give a huge thanks to my parents, coaches, teachers, and teammates for pushing me to get better in the pool and the classroom. Go HOOS!!”

Belcher does his club swimming with NOVA of Virginia Aquatics and is coming off a fantastic summer. At Junior National Championships, he earned all best times, placed eighth in the 200m IM, and took 21st in the 400m IM. He also had seven top-8 finishes at Virginia LCM Seniors, highlighted by silver medals in the 200m and 400m free.

Back in the winter, he had four top-20 finishes at VSI Senior Championships, including a ninth-place finish in the 1000 free. At NCSA Championships, he finaled in the 500 free.

His best times include:

  • 400 IM – 4:06.47
  • 400m IM – 4:28.31
  • 100 free – 48.36
  • 100m free – 53.24
  • 200 free – 1:42.41

  • 1000 free – 9:31.92
  • 800m free – 8:52.13
  • 1650 free – 15:51.65
  • 1500m free – 16:30.38

Currently a junior at Goochland High School, Belcher placed third in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 free at the 2022 Virginia 3A State Championships. A week prior, he won the 200 free and flew to fourth in the 100 fly at the VHSL Region 3B Championships.
