Sarah HenryElizabeth BeiselMaya DiRado and Caitlin Leverenz were four of the top five qualifiers into the 400 IM final at Olympic Trials. Beisel and DiRado have both won international medals for the U.S., and Leverenz was a finalist at the Olympic Games in 2012. Henry, the NCAA champion in the event last year, was the surprise qualifier as she used a strong back half to pass Beisel and win their heat.

Each of the four have different strengths and weaknesses, which should set up for an incredible race in the evening. DiRado and Leverenz should have the strongest butterfly and DiRado and Beisel the strongest back. DiRado is almost surely going to be in the lead at the halfway point, but Beisel has improved mightily on the breaststoke, and both Henry and Leverenz have experience swimming the 200 breast on a high level.

The freestyle leg should be anyone’s race. To see what these four had to say going into the evening final, watch the videos below.
