Townley Haas dropped nearly two seconds from his morning swim to win the men’s 200 free at the 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships. The 2016 Olympic gold medalist won the event by over one second to earn his first World Championships berth. His time of 1:45.03 is good enough for the second fastest time in the world this year.
The Texas Longhorn junior-to-be admits he is a bit nervous that all eyes are on him now with the absence of Conor Dwyer, Michael Phelps, and Ryan Lochte but is confident in his training. Haas will also compete on the 4×100 freestyle relay at Worlds after he finished third in the 100 free.
