Kevin Cordes raced Thursday night at the TYR Pro Swim Series meet in Atlanta in the 200 breast final, where he finished eighth, but the race was the first for Cordes since July, when he won three medals for the U.S. at the FINA World Championships.

After the race, Cordes explained that he spent the fall in Tucson, Ariz., finishing up his degree at the University of Arizona, and now he has returned to Auburn to swim in Sergio Lopez’s pro group. Cordes explained how it felt returning to racing after such a long layoff, and he gave his thoughts about being in one of the most competitive in-season 200 breast heats he can remember.
