Cullen Jones could not catch up to Caeleb Dressel in the final of the men’s 50 free, but he did manage to record his first swim of the year under 22 seconds and move into the world top-ten as he clocked 21.87. While he trailed fell way behind Dressel and his 21.53, Jones managed to touch out Josh Schneider (21.93) for the second spot.
After the race, Jones seemed relieved to finally crack the 22-barrier after being disappointed with his performance at the Pan American Games. Jones spoke about how he rebounded from Pan Ams to swim well at Nationals just three weeks later. He also talked about his expectations for Sunday’s 100 free and his racing schedule going forward.
