Verona Area’s Beata Nelson Clears U.S. National Age Group Record in 100 Fly

MADISON, Wisconsin, November 16. AT the Wisconsin Girls Division I State High School Championships this weekend, Verona Area’s Beata Nelson took a bite out of the U.S. 15-16 National Age Group record in the 100-yard fly.

Nelson crushed the state record with a sizzling time of 52.06 (24.23-27.83) to win the 100 fly, blasting the 54.55 that had been set by Sarah Wanezek of Brookfield East back in 1999.

Nelson, 15, also shot down the U.S. NAG of Janet Hu. Hu, representing Nation’s Capital, owned the previous record with a 52.40 from 2012.

Nelson just missed the national high school record of 51.92 set by Jasmine Tosky for Palo Alto during prelims in 2011.

Nelson’s definitely an up-and-coming star in the ranks of the sport. Nelson, who swims for YMCA Dane County on the club circuit, previously had a best time of 53.36 from the 2013 NCSA Junior Championships that were broadcast live on SwimmingWorld.TV. She also has a 1:56.84 in the 200-yard back as well as a 49.81 in the 100-yard free.

College recruiters will definitely be clamoring to get in touch with Nelson in terms of her collegiate swimming plans when the sophomore is available to recruit.
