Vermont Catamounts Rally Up Verbal From Up Futures Qualifier Emma Wainwright
NEW COMMIT: The University of Vermont has received a verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Futures qualifier Emma Wainwright of Vienna, Virginia.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Vermont. I would like to thank my friends, family, coaches, and teammates for all their support. Go cats!”
Wainwright, who does her club swimming with Machine Aquatics, recently earned three best times at the NOVA Senior Classic Invitational last weekend. This past summer, she raced five events at the NCSA Championships and competed at that meet in March as well.
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 57.95
- 200 back – 2:08.71
- 100 fly – 1:00.11
- 50 free – 25.42
- 100 free – 53.80
- 200 free – 1:57.66
Also competing for James Madison School, Wainwright placed ninth in the 100 back at the Virginia 6A State Championships during her junior season. She also finished fourth in that event at the Northern Region Championships.
Wainwright will add valuable depth in a number of different events when she suits up for the Catamounts as a member of their Class of 2026. Under head coach Gerry Cournoyer, Vermont finished third at the 2021 America East Championships.
