Valparaiso Picks Up Dual Meet wins over Butler Bulldogs

VALPARAISO, IN, October 18. VALPARAISO won both the men's and women's competitions with Butler as they opened their 2004-05 campaigns at Valparaiso Saturday afternoon.

Despite seven individual wins, the Butler men's team dropped a 124-74 decision, while the women fell 144.5-69.5. The meet was the first of coach R. J. Talyor's Butler tenure.

On the men's side, sophomore Raj Duggal posted first-place finishes in both the 500-yd. and 1,000-yd. freestyle events with times of 4:58.59 and 10:12.14, respectively. Carlton Racette also won two events Saturday, the 200-yd. individual medley (2:00.04) and the 100-yd. butterfly (55.01). Korey McCulley posted a first in the 50-yd. freestyle, covering the distance in 23.11 seconds.

For the ladies, sophomore Mary Beth Arnold won the 200-yd. individual medley with a time of 2:16.94 and got to the wall first in the 100-yd. breaststroke (1:09.86). Senior Jesse Levknecht's time of 1:02.01 in the 100-yd. butterfly won that event as well.

The Bulldogs return to action Saturday, Oct. 30, joining most of the Indiana universities at the Indiana Intercollegiate at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
