Vahan Mkhitaryan Selected as Armenia’s Olympic Flag Bearer

Vahan Mkhitaryan has been selected as Armenia’s Olympic flag bearer, according to Gagik Tsarukyan, the President of Armenia’s National Olympic Committee.

In the entry lists FINA released yesterday, Mkhitaryan appeared in the 50 freestyle as a universality entry with a time of 23.23.

The 19 year old is the National Record holder in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles. Mkhitaryan swam the 50 and the 100 at last summer’s World Championships.

Monika Vasilyan will be the Armenian woman competing. She is entered in the 50 freestyle with a 27.63, as a universality entry as well.

Stephanie Au has been selected to carry Hong Kong’s flag and Federica Pellegrini will be Italy’s flag bearer. The Opening Ceremony takes place on August 5.
