Utah Swimming and Diving sink Colorado State 158-127

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. January 21. SENIORS Meghan Demchuk, Amy Barefield and Ariane Kich each posted individual event wins in their final home meet to help the Utes beat the Rams 158-127 at Ute Natatorium.

“It was a great way for our senior women to finish at home,” said Head Coach Michael Litzinger. “We keep getting better and better each week and we’re looking forward to finishing strong as we head into the conference championship meet.”

Overall, the Utes won 11 of 16 events to improve to 5-0 in conference dual meets. Utah competed in the final four events as an exhibition. Colorado State drops to 4-3 in conference meets.

Demchuk won the 200 fly with a time of 2 minutes, 09.08 seconds. Sophomore Michelle Blair (2:10.29) placed third in the event. Barefield took top honors in the 50 free with a time of 24.62 seconds.

Kich won the 200 breast in 2 minutes, 26.33 seconds. Kich was followed by Adrienne Coburn (2:27.33) and Caitlin Tidwell (2:28.86), who finished second and third, respectively.

In the 1000 free, Rachael Curci and Shannon McQueen finished first and second, respectively. Curci posted a time of 10 minutes, 33.09 seconds, while McQueen finished in 10 minutes, 50.44 seconds. Alison McInturff took top honors in the 200 free with a time of 1 minute, 54.39 seconds. McQueen placed second after posting a time of 1 minute, 56.62 seconds.

The Utes posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breast with Amber Walter (1:04.66), Kich (1:07.83) and Caitlin Tidwell (1:08.57) competing for Utah. Marissa Martin and senior Leah Jensen place second and third, respectively, in the 100 back. Martin finished in 59.61 seconds, while Jensen posted a time of 1 minute, 00.96 seconds.

Walter won he second event of the night, the 100 free, with a time of 52.99 seconds. Walter was followed by senior Amber Walker, who placed third with a time of 54.01 seconds. In the 200 back, McQueen too top honors (2:04.19) and Martin placed second (2:05.45).

In the 500 free, McInturff took top honors for her second win of the night. McInturff finished in 5 minutes, 09.58 seconds, while Curci finished second with a time of 5 minutes, 12.33 seconds.

Kelsey Patterson won the 1-meter diving event after tallying 287.23 points. Freshman Anna Braszkewiecz finished third with a score of 247.50.

In the 400 medley relay, Utah’s ‘A’ team of McQueen, Walter, Jennifer Fredsall and McInturff placed first in 3 minutes, 54.34 seconds. Utah’s ‘B’ team of Martin, Kich, Demchuk and Barefield finished second with a time of 3 minutes, 58.15 seconds.

Utah competed in 100 fly, 3-meter diving, 200 IM and 400 free relay as exhibition events.
