NEW COMMIT: The University of Utah has received their first verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Fort Collins, Colo. native Milla Ruthven.

Primarily a distance freestyler, Ruthven does her club swimming with Fort Collins Area Swim Team and owns three Winter Junior standards. She capped off her successful long course season at Mount Hood Sectionals where she earned 100% best times en route to finishing sixth in both the 400m and 800m free. Last winter, she won the mile at the Speedo Music City Invitational before going on to register four top-8 finishes at Federal Way Sectionals. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:53.16
  • 500 free – 4:54.98
  • 1000 free – 10:03.59
  • 1650 free – 17:07.73
  • 200 IM – 2:09.87
  • 400 IM – 4:21.66

Ruthven will add valuable distance depth to the Utes’ lineup when she arrives in Salt Lake City as a member of the class of 2025. Although she’s not in scoring range just yet at the Pac-12 Championship level, she has consistently made improvements each season with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go. Over the past two years, she has dropped nine seconds in the 500 free, 23 seconds in the 1000 free, nearly a minute in the mile, and 12 seconds in the 400 IM.
