NEW COMMIT: The University of Utah has been handed a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from talented freestyler Taylor Kabacy of Tacoma, Wash.

Kabacy, who owns five Summer Juniors standards and a U.S. Open cut, does her club swimming with Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club and most recently placed 19th in the 800m free at Junior Nationals this past summer after taking fourth in the 200m free at Mount Hood Futures. Last winter she finished 18th in the mile at Juniors West, earned silver in the 400 IM and 500 free at Washington Seniors, and grabbed bronze in the mile at Federal Way Sectionals. A current senior at Stadium High School, Kabacy has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in her career thus far.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to finally announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academics at the University of Utah class of 2024! I’d like to thank everyone who helped me through this process including my family, friends, teammates, and coaches! Go Utes!!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:49.59
  • 500 free – 4:51.18
  • 1000 free – 10:01.00
  • 1650 free – 16:49.72
  • 200 back – 2:01.18
  • 400 IM – 4:22.47

Kabacy will be a valuable asset to the Utes’ freestyle group, and she’ll add her talents to a training squad that’ll include Sara McClendon, Mandy Gebhart, Kyla Yetter, and Kayla Miller. Kabacy has made continuous improvements each year and she’ll surely see some major time drops this short course season after her stellar summer season.

What a beautiful photo/write up of an amazing grand daughter: sweet and loving but always determined and persevering in the goals she sets for herself! We are so proud of you, Taylor and know how hard you work. What an amazing journey you have had in your 18 years; and what a world is opening up to you.
