Utah Garners Men’s and Women’s MWC “Swimmer of the Week” Honors

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 21. BOTH Neringa Statkeviciute and Jonathan Larsen earned the Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Week honors for their performances against Ohio State and Wright State.

Statkeviciute, a Kaunas, Lithuania, native posted two individual victories and was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team, as the Utes lost a dual meet at Ohio State (130-111) on November 15. She started the meet winning the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events in 51.22 and 1:51.42, respectively. Statkeviciute completed the meet by anchoring Utah's 400 freestyle relay team to victory, posting a time of 3:33.28.

Statkeviciute followed up Friday's performance by leading the Utes to a dual meet victory at Wright State (132-99) on November 16. Against the Raiders, she won the 50-yard freestyle (24.93) and anchored Utah's 200-yard (1:49.63) medley relay team to victory.

Larsen, a Stockton, Calif., native had two individual victories and was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team, as the Utes lost a dual meet at Ohio State (130-111) on November 15. He started the meet winning the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events in 20.66 and 44.89, respectively. His time in the 100 free is the fifth fastest time in the country this year. Larsen completed the meet by anchoring Utah's 400 medley relay team to victory, posting a time of 3:21.40.

Larsen also had a good performance in the Utes victory at Wright State (125-112) on November 16. Against the Raiders, he won the 100-yard freestyle (45.51) and anchored Utah's 200-yard (1:34.14) medley relay team to victory. Larsen's time in the 100 free and Utah's time in the 200 medley relay set new pool records.

This is the first time this year where both men's and women's MWC Swimmer of the Week honors were awarded to the Utes in the same week.
