Utah Diving garners MWC Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. January 18. SENIOR Sterling Richards and junior Kelsey Patterson have been named the MWC Men’s and Women’s Diver of the Week, respectively, for the fourth time this year. This marks Richards seventh and Patterson’s sixth career weekly award.

Richards, a Salt Lake City product, won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against TCU. The senior scored 360.14 points in the 1-meter, 25.04 points ahead of second place. Richards tallied 380.83 points in the 3-meter, to outdistance himself from second place by 44.08 points. His point totals against TCU are the top marks in the MWC this season.

Patterson, an Edmonton, Alta. native, won all three diving events she competed in against New Mexico and TCU over the weekend. Patterson scored 312.22 points in the 1-meter against New Mexico, 29.10 points ahead of second place. Her point total in the 1-meter against New Mexico is a top mark in the MWC this season. Patterson competed in the 3-meter against New Mexico as an exhibition. Against TCU, Patterson posted 294.30 points in the 1-meter, 19.66 points ahead of second place. The junior tallied 327.90 points in the 3-meter to outdistance herself from second place by 15.45 points.
