NEW COMMIT: Burbank, Calif. freestyler Dominic Margarino has given the University of Southern California an in-state verbal and will join the Trojans next fall.

Margarino does his club swimming with Burbank Los Angeles Swim Team (BLAST Sharks) where he owns a pair of Winter Nationals cuts with the U.S. Open standard in the 200m free. He capped off his summer season by placing 14th in the 200m free and 16th in the 400m free at Junior Nationals. He achieved 100% best times at Carlsbad Sectionals in March and was a four-time finalist at Speedo Champion Series in December. Also competing for Notre Dame High School, Margarino finished fifth in the 500 free and seventh in the 200 free at CIF-Southern Sections during his junior season.

He told Swimming World:

“I am proud to announce my commitment to the University of Southern California. I know USC will allow me to excel to the best of my abilities as a student and as an athlete. Thank you to all my friends, family, and coaches who have helped me along this journey. I am super excited for the next four years I get to spend as a Trojan. FIGHT ON!!!”

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 45.72
  • 200 free – 1:38.58
  • 500 free – 4:28.42
  • 200 IM – 1:54.83

Margarino has made significant improvements over the past two seasons, shaving of four seconds from his 100 free, 10 from his 200 free and knocking off 28 from his 500 free. When he suits up for the Trojans as a member of the class of 2023, he will join a mid-distance freestyle group that includes Victor JohanssonAlexei Sancov and Nikola Miljenic. USC finished third overall at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships.
