NEW COMMIT: The University of Southern California has earned an in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from local standout Anicka Delgado of Laguna Hills, Calif.

Delgado, who owns a trio of U.S. Open standards, swims year-round with Gators Swim Club and most recently competed at Juniors West in December where she finaled in the 50/100 free and 100 fly. She raced four events at Junior Nationals this past summer, taking 17th in the 100m free. As a native of Ecuador, Delgado represented the Ecuadoran Swimming Federation in four events and placed fifth in the 50m fly at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

A current junior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, Delgado is a seven-time CIF-Southern Section DI champion and has broken three records. She won the 100 fly, was the 50 free runner-up  and was a member of a pair of record-setting relays as a freshman. The NISCA All-American won the 100 fly and 50 free as a junior, coming within inches of Abbey Weitzel’s 50 free record. She then went on to earn the silver in both the 100 fly and 50 free at the CIF State Championships.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“Beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to University of Southern California where I will continue my academic and athletic career with the graduating class of 2024. Fight On!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 53.25
  • 50 free – 22.71
  • 100 free – 49.43
  • 200 free – 1:48.26

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Trojans as a member of the class 2024, Delgado would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 fly and the C-final of the 50/100 free at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships. She’ll add her talents to a sprint group that’ll include Marta Ciesla and Caitlin Tycz.
