NEW COMMIT: The University of Southern California has gained a new member for the class of 2023, this time coming from Jack Kirby. He will join the Trojans in the fall of 2019.

Originally from Barbados, Kirby attends The Baylor School in Tennessee where he had a very successful junior year. Last high school season, he won the 100 free (44.45) and 100 back (48.23) at the TISCA Tennessee State Championships. He was two-tenths off the state record in the 100 free and was also a member of the winning 4×50 medley and 4×100 free relays.

When in Barbados, Kirby represents Pirates Swim Club. At the 2018 CARIFTA Swimming Championships, Kirby set new records in the 50m back and 100m back en route to winning the High Point Award. This past summer, he competed at the XXIII CAC Games where he finished fifth in the 100m back (56.19) to lower his own 15-17 National Age Group record.

Kirby also swims for Baylor Swim Club while in the United States and is a three-time U.S. Open qualifier. The NISCA All-American finished sixth in the 100 back (48.67) at the 2017 Speedo Winter Junior Championships – East and sixth in the 100m back (56.75) at Juniors this past August.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m honored to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at the University of Southern California. I believe USC is the right fit for me and I know that my future is in good hands. I can’t wait to be a part of the Trojan Family.”

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 22.41
  • 100 back – 48.05
  • 200 back – 1:45.35
  • 200 IM – 1:51.16
  • 50 free – 20.92
  • 100 free – 44.45

Kirby will provide valuable depth when he arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season for the Trojans, who will have just graduated one of their top backstrokers in Patrick Mulcare. USC finished third at the 2018 PAC 12 Championships.
