USA Swimming Winter Nationals: Tyler Clary Smashes Field in 400 IM Triumph

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 2. NO one could touch FAST's Tyler Clary during the men's 400 IM as he raced to a commanding conquest in 4:15.15 at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals. That swim finished well back of his second-ranked season best of 4:11.17 from Worlds, but was more than three seconds ahead of the pack tonight.
FAST teammate Robert Margalis won the close battle for second with a 4:18.39, while Josh Prenot finished third in 4:19.19. William Harris touched fourth in 4:19.75, while two-time Swimming World World Swimmer of the Year Ryan Lochte wound up fifth in 4:20.05 while contending with a mountain of training under Gregg Troy. Jack Brown (4:22.24), Joseph Bentz (4:23.71), Corey Okubo (4:24.07), Jacob Pebley (4:24.20) and Alec Page (4:26.42) comprised the other A finalists.
Adam Hinshaw cruised to the B final win in 4:25.03, while Matt Thompson placed second in 4:27.92. Sean Mathews (4:28.93) and Esteban Enderica (4:29.78) hit the wall third and fourth. William Cregar (4:30.39), Christopher DePietro (4:30.52), Connor Signorin (4:30.57), Charlie Rimkus (4:30.72), Jordan Jones (4:31.08) and John Martens (4:32.08) rounded out the rest of the top 20.
Conor Dwyer clinched the C final in 4:26.45, while Zachary Lierley finished second in 4:27.62. Ben Hinshaw (4:28.48), Eduardo Solaeche-Gomez (4:29.57) and Tynan Stewart (4:30.15) touched third through fifth. Hannon Daigler (4:31.13), Andrew Ford (4:32.57), Jay Litherland (4:32.67) and Ian Decker (4:35.21) also competed, while Christian Yeager drew a disqualification.
