USA Swimming Grand Prix, Charlotte: Peter Vanderkaay, Katie Hoff Top Distance Events
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, May 14. THE first night of long course meter swimming at the USA Swimming Grand Prix held in Charlotte, N.C. featured distance freestyle swimming.
Club Wolverine's Peter Vanderkaay opened the Charlotte UltraSwim with a meet-record time in the men's 1500 free. He clocked a 15:09.77 to beat the 2008 standard of 15:16.53 set by Troy Prinsloo. WSY Swimming's Joe Kinderwater placed second in 15:31.48, while North Baltimore's Brennan Morris placed third in 15:38.88.
North Baltimore's Katie Hoff grabbed the title in the women's 800 free with an 8:39.35, off her meet-record time of 8:31.50 from 2006. Club Wolverine's Emily Brunemann, competing after serving an accidental substance use suspension earlier this year, took second in 8:41.23. Team Ontario's Lindsay Seemann finished third in 8:44.05.
