USA Swimming Athletes Committee Announces Election Results

DEARBORN, Michigan, September 18. THE USA Swimming Athletes Committee has announced its newest members selected in voting at the United Stats Aquatic Sports Convention in Dearborn, Mich.

The committee chose six individuals for the Athletes Executive Committee (AEC):
Trent Staley – Athletes Executive Committee Chair/USA Swimming Vice President Athletes (Automatically serves on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors)
Linda Riker – AEC Executive Vice Chair (Automatically serves on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors)
Tyler Storie – AEC Convention Vice Chair (Automatically serves on the Board of Directors)
Alison Terry – AEC LSC Coordinator Vice Chair (Automatically serves on the Board of Directors)
Ann Marie Mayers – AEC Communications and Administration Vice Chair
Chris Thompson – AEC Recruitment and Leadership Vice Chair

Staley also appointed three at-large members to the AEC, which have all been confirmed by the AEC:
Nate Rothman
Robbie Fischetti
Paul Sigfusson Jr.

"As the new AEC Chair, I am very excited to work with President Jim Wood and the Board of Directors, as well as Chuck Wielgus and the USA Swimming staff,” Staley said. “I am especially pleased to be reunited with Mark Schubert and Lindsay Mintenko, as they are the AEC staff contacts. I believe that much can be done for the athletes in the two years leading up to the 2008 Olympic Games and, I, along with the rest of the AEC, will work hard for ensure that both the National Team athletes and those at our grass roots have a sport in which they can take pride.”

Tom Dolan, the United States Olympic Committee Athletes Advisory Council Representative, and Jamie Rauch, the National Team Vice Chair, were not up for re-election. Additionally, outgoing AEC Chair Bryan Jones will now serve in the voting role of the Immediate Past Chair.

In other AEC news, the USA Swimming House of Delegates passed legislation on that allows athletes to bring alternates to the Board of Directors in the case of one of the named five members not being able to attend. These alternates will be full voting members.
