US Olympic Coaching Staff Named; McKeever Becomes First Woman to Coach US Olympic Swim Team

LONG BEACH, Calif., July 14. THE US Olympic coaching staff was finalized tonight and it includes the first woman ever to serve on the US Olympic coaching staff.

Serving as the men's head coach will be Eddie Reese of the University of Texas and Longhorn Aquatics. Serving as the women's head coach will be Mark Schubert of the University of Southern California and the Trojan Swim Club.

The assistant men’s coaches will be:

Dr. David Salo, Irvine Novaquatics
Bob Bowman, North Baltimore Aquatic Club, and
Jon Urbanchek, University of Michigan and Club Wolverine.

The assistant women’s coaches will be:

Teri McKeever, University of California and Cal Aquatics
Richard Quick, Stanford University,) and
Frank Busch, University of Arizona and Tucson Ford.

McKeever becomes the first woman to serve on a U.S. Olympic swimming coaching staff. In 1964, Mary Kelly was named to the US Olympic coaching staff but declined the appointment.
