NEW COMMIT: Lehigh University has received a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Downington, Penn. freestyler Sarah Manthorp who will join Maddie Dorish in Bethlehem next fall.

Manthorp does her club swimming with Upper Main Line YMCA and recently placed 11th in the 200 free at YMCA SCY Nationals in April. Last summer, she recorded four best times at YMCA LCM Nationals where her highest finish was a 13th-place showing in the 200m free. Also competing for Downington West High School, Manthrop placed eighth in the 100/200 free combo as a junior at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to Lehigh University, where I will be continuing my academic and athletic pursuits as a Mountain Hawk swimmer! Thank you so much to everyone who has helped and supported me along the way, especially my family, friends, and coaches! Go Mountain Hawks!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.97
  • 100 free – 51.64
  • 200 free – 1:49.66
  • 500 free – 5:02.03

When she suits up for the Mountain Hawks as a member of the class of 2024, Manthrop will add valuable depth to their sprint and mid-distance freestyle training group. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 free as well as the B-final of the 100 free at the 2019 Patriot League Championships where Lehigh finished fourth overall in the team standings.
