UNLV Signs Three Top Recruits

LAS VEGAS, November 22, 2002. UNLV head swimming and diving coach Jim Reitz announced Friday the signing of three student-athletes, two men and one woman.

Tiger Christian is a backstroke/IM swimmer from Nacogdoches, Texas. Christian attended Nacogdoches High School and is a national qualifier in both the 100 and 200 back.

"He should make an immediate impact as a freshman," said assistant coach John Hargis. "He is a highly sought after recruit and we're lucky to have him. He is a raw talent with untapped potential."

Brandon Nelms is a sprint freestyler from Plano, Texas, where he attends Plano High School. "We have high expectations for Brandon to step in right away and make our team better," said Hargis. "He comes from a highly respected program in Texas and should be a big part of our program for the next four years."

Katie Wronn is a sprint freestyler from Citris Heights, Calif. She currently attends Bella Vista High School and took third at sectionals last May in the 50 and 100 freestyle. "Katie fills a need position for us," said head assistant coach Mike Westphal. "She will come in as one of the fastest freestylers on the team. She will also be a great asset on the relays."

"This is possibly the best combined talent that we've ever had," said Reitz. "We are especially fortunate on the men's side. Those are the only two guys we recruited and we're extremely fortunate to get them both."
