United States Falls to Australia in World League Water Polo

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., Aug. 19. IN its second round game of the FINA World League Super Final, Team USA women's water polo was defeated by the Australian team, 11-10.

"We were competitive, but we had a lot of turnovers," said head coach Heather Moody. "It's hard to go from playing in the gold medal game at the World Championships, which was the focus of our summer, to refocusing for another competition. It has been a good learning experience."

The USA women had a strong start against the Aussies. Both teams had two goals during the first quarter, but the USA was unable to match its opponent during the second quarter. During the third quarter, the USA came back and won the quarter by one, but the two teams were matched in the fourth quarter, leaving the final score at 11-10.

Tomorrow, the USA will take on Russia in its home pool. This game will determine which team will play for third place and $30,000 in prize money.

"Russia is playing really well," said Moody. "They will have the crowd here to support them so it should be a good game."
