NEW COMMIT: The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill has received a new in-state verbal commitment for Fall 2023 from Ben Delmar of Charlotte, N.C.

He will join fellow in-stater Tucker Valliere in Chapel Hill as a member of the Class of 2027.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m just really excited to join a team that can improve to be one of the best!”

Delmar raced to 15th in the 200m breast in a personal best at the International Team Trials, earning him a spot on Team USA for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships from August 24-27 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Training year-round with SwimMAC Carolina, Delmar won the B-final of the 200 breast at Juniors East in December and earned bronze in the 200m breast at Indianapolis Sectionals in March. He also had a stellar showing at the Speedo Southern Premier, recording best times in all of his events.

His best times include:

  • 200 breast – 1:58.67
  • 100 breast – 55.82
  • 400 IM – 3:59.61
  • 200 IM – 1:52.84
  • 100 fly – 52.78
  • 500 free – 4:47.84
  • 200 free – 1:46.82

A rising senior at Providence High School, Delmar placed fourth in the 100 breast and 11th in the 200 IM at the 2022 North Carolina 4A State Championships. He finished seventh in the 100 breast as a sophomore.

Delmar’s top 200 breast time is already fast enough to score in the C-final at the ACC Championship level.
