UNC Freestyler Jessi Perruquet Named ACC Swimmer of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C., February 1. NORTH Carolina senior freestyle star Jessi Perruquet co-defending NCAA 200 freestyle champ, has been named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week.

Perruquet won the honor for the third time this season after winning all three of her individual events and anchoring North Carolina's victorious 200 medley relay, as the No. 15 Tar Heels won their 13th consecutive ACC dual meet with a 171-129 win over No. 17 Virginia. The Danville, PA. native posted a 23.19 NCAA" B" cut split in the anchor leg of the Tar Heels' winning medley relay team. The senior then went on to sweep the sprint freestyle events, recording "B"cut times in the 100 (50.86) and 200 freestyle (1:49.04).She'll be after several titles at the ACC women's conference championships starting in three weeks at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and also try and stop the Cavalier's' three-year league win streak in her final meet.

When she tied for the NCAA 200 free title last spring along with Auburn's Heather Kemp last March, it was the Tar Heels' first NCAA individual title since backstroker Sue Walsh's multiple victories in the early 1980s.
