NEW COMMIT: The University of Maryland – Baltimore County (UMBC) has received a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from Austin, Texas’ Halle Gordon.

Gordon does her club swimming with Western Hills Athletic Club and raced two events at Austin Sectionals to conclude her long course season. Primarily a sprint freestyler, she competed in three events at College Station Sectionals in March. Gordon placed 16th in the 200 free at the Texas 6A State Championships during her junior year for Westlake High School after finishing eighth in that event as well as the 100 free at the Region 3 meet a week prior.

She told Swimming World:

“I fell in love with UMBC as soon as I saw what a family they are. I was instantly welcomed by the coaches and athletes and knew that their team is so much more than just a bunch of people who swim together. Coach Chad and Coach Chris are excellent coaches and know how to make someone a better swimmer and a better person. I cannot wait to continue my academic and athletic career at UMBC! Go Grit!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.34
  • 100 free – 52.75
  • 200 free – 1:51.13
  • 100 fly – 59.56

When she suits up for the Retrievers as a member of the class of 2023, Gordon will add her talents to a sprint group that includes Haylee Committe and Tonia Papapertrou. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 free as well as the B-final of the 50 free and 100 free at the 2018 America East Championships where UMBC were the runner-ups.
