UCLA Gains 2027 Verbal From In-State Sprinter Olivia Somers
NEW COMMIT: Olivia Somers of Sacramento, Calif. has opted to remain in-state for her college career after she verbally committed to the University of California, Los Angeles for Fall 2027. A talented sprint freestyler, Somers is a Junior National qualifier.
She will join Lilla Kapinya and Alicia Budacsek in Los Angeles as a member of the Bruins’ Class of 2031.
Regarding her commitment, she said:

Thank you to my family, the Reuter family, my teammates, Coach Derek, Adric, Coach Greg, and the UCLA coaching staff for believing in me and helping me reach this point. I couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who supported me along the way. Excited for this next chapter. Go Bruins!”
Somers trains year-round with Life Time Northern California and had a great showing at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Sacramento in May where she earned best times and second-swims in all her events. She sprinted to eighth place in the 50 free at Roseville Speedo Sectionals in March after winning four individual events at the Winterfest Meet in December. Last summer, she raced to sixth in the 50m free and eighth in the 100m free at Western Zone LCM Seniors.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.30
- 100 free – 50.69
- 100 fly – 57.04
A rising senior at Rio Americano High School, Somers placed 13th in both the 50 free and 100 free at the 2026 CIF State Championships. She earned bronze in both of those events at the 2026 CIF Sac Joaquin Section Championships after taking second in the 100 free and third in the 200 IM at that meet in 2025.
UCLA finished seventh in the team standings at the 2026 Big Ten Championships.
