NEW COMMIT: Zoe Cosgrove, a backstroker from Davis, Calif., has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of California, Santa Barbara starting in the fall of 2019.

Cosgrove swims club for the Davis Aquadarts Racing Team (DART) under head coach Billy Doughty and has achieved the U.S. Open standard in the 100 back. She raced two events at Junior Nationals this summer – finishing 21st overall in the 100m back – and also competed at Juniors West last winter. She made three finals appearances at College Station Speedo Sectionals in March and swam a best time at Mesa Pro Swim Series. Cosgrove also raced at the 2016 Olympic Trials when she was 15.

Cosgrove has also seen great success competing for Davis Senior High School for head coach John VarleyThe three-time NISCA All-American and 2018 Davis High MVP capped off her junior season by leading her team to a second-consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section title while spearheading their section record performance in the 4×50 medley relay. Cosgrove was then part of a state record 4×50 medley relay just a week later at the CIF State Championships, where she placed second overall in the 100 back.

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 51.50
  • 100 back – 54.12
  • 100 fly – 55.40
  • 100 breast – 1:04.69
  • 200 back – 1:59.53

Cosgrove will make an immediate impact for the Gauchos when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2023. Her best 100 back time ranked first on their lineup last season and would’ve gotten her the runner-up spot at the 2018 MPFS Championships while her 200 back also would’ve scored in the A-final. She’ll have two years of overlap to train with top returning backstroker Elena England.
