NEW COMMIT: UC-Santa Barbara has received their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from in-state standout Cameron “Cami” Collins of San Diego, Calif.

Collins, who owns a pair of Winter Juniors standards, does her club swimming with Bay Club Aquatics and recently placed seventh in the 1000 free and ninth in the 500 free/200 fly at Carlsbad Speedo Sectionals. This past summer, she finished 22nd in the 400m free at Santa Clarita Speedo Sectionals before going on to take 23rd in that event at Santa Clara Futures. Also competing for Torrey Pines High School, Collins finished 11th in the 500 free at the CIF State Championships during her junior season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at UC Santa Barbara.  It is an honor to be part of such an amazing team of swimmers and outstanding coaches and to have the opportunity to take part in the excellent academic programs the university has to offer. I am extremely grateful to my family, coaches, and teammates who have helped me along the way. GO GAUCHOS!!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:51.35
  • 500 free – 4:52.24
  • 1000 free – 10:04.44
  • 100 fly – 57.22
  • 200 fly – 2:01.99

Collins will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Gauchos as a member of the class of 2024 as her best times already rank at the top of their roster this past season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 500 free and 200 fly at the 2019 MPSF Championships where UC-Santa Barbara finished third overall in the team standings.
