NEW COMMIT: The University of Michigan has landed their first verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Lucas Hodgson of Riverside, Conn.

He will arrive in Ann Arbor as a member of the Wolverines’ class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at The University of Michigan! I would like to thank my family, coaches, and friends for supporting me through this process. GO BLUE!!! 〽️〽️”

A U.S. Open qualifier, Hodgson does his club swimming with Greenwich YMCA Marlins and is predominantly a backstroker. He achieved 100% best times at the NCAP Invitational in December where his highest finish was a third-place showing in the 500 free and raced four events at YMCA Nationals in April 2019.

Last summer, he had a trio of top-10 finishes at Connecticut LCM Seniors before going on to place ninth in the 800m free and 13th in the 200m back at YMCA LCM Nationals.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 22.92
  • 100 back – 48.91
  • 200 back – 1:49.21
  • 200 free – 1:38.02

A rising junior at Brunswick High School, Hodgson is a four-time Eastern Interscholastic Championship finalist. He placed third in the 200 free and sixth in the 100 back as a sophomore while taking 20th and 18th, respectively, in those events during his freshman year.

Hodgson also won the 500 free and was the 100 back runner-up at the New England DI Prep School Championships in 2020 after taking seventh in the 200/500 free combo as a rookie.
