NEW COMMIT: Harvard has scored their second verbal commitment* for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Pacific Bethesda, Md. native and U.S. Open qualifier Abby Carr.

She will arrive in Cambridge as a member of the Crimson’s class of 2025 along with Katrina Mortenson.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“Blessed to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Harvard!!! I am so grateful for the opportunity to further my academic and athletic career in such a welcoming yet challenging environment. I want to sincerely thank my family, coaches, teachers, and friends for their support during this journey.”

A talented backstroker, butterflyer, and IMer, Carr swims year-round with Rockville Montgomery Swim Club and owns several U.S. Open and Junior National cuts. She recorded four best times at the Toyota U.S. Open in December where she earned three top-30 finishes. Last summer, she placed ninth in the 200m fly at NCSAs.

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 54.65
  • 200 back – 1:59.86
  • 100 fly – 54.09
  • 200 fly – 2:01.10
  • 200 IM – 2:03.65
  • 400 IM – 4:23.02

A current senior at Washington Christian Academy, Carr is a six-time Washington Metropolitan Prep School League Championship finalist. She won the 100 fly and was the runner-up in the 100 back as a junior while taking second and first, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Carr will make an immediate impact both individually and on relays when she suits up for the Crimson in the fall of 2021. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 back as well as the B-final of the 200 back, 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM at the 2020 Ivy League Championships where Harvard finished second after winning the team title the previous two years.

*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
