NEW COMMIT: Missoula, Montana native and current U.S. National Junior Teamer Katharine Berkoff has announced her verbal commitment to NC State and will join the Wolfpack as a member of the class of 2023.

Berkoff does her club swimming with Missoula Aquatic Club and owns eight Winter Junior (or faster) standards. The daughter of Olympian David Berkoff, she competed at Phillips 66 Nationals this past summer where she finished fifth in both the 50m and 100m back as well as seventh in the 200m back. She then represented Team USA at the Junior Pan-Pac Championships where she set a meet record in the 100m back (59.59) en route to becoming the fifth-fastest performer in 17-18 age group history. She also won the 100 back and was the 200 back runner-up at Juniors West last winter. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is a six-time Montana State champion for Hellgate High School and owns five state records.

She announced her commitment on Instagram:

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 51.93
  • 200 back – 1:51.40
  • 200 IM – 1:59.71
  • 50 free – 22.99
  • 100 free – 49.18
  • 200 free – 1:46.81
  • 500 free – 4:52.38
  • 100 fly – 54.97

Berkoff, who was named Swimming World’s Up & Comer in December 2015, will make an immediate impact for NC State when she suits up next fall. Her best 200 back time would’ve won an ACC title last season while her 100 back would’ve placed third. Berkoff also would’ve scored in the B-final of both backstroke events at NCAAs last season.
