TYR Meet of Champions Will Feature Dynamite Field

MISSION VIEJO, Calif., USA, June 14. ONE of the stops on the Southern California Swim Series, the TYR Meet of Champions will run Thursday to Sunday, sponsored by the Mission Viejo Nadadores.

The meet, like most these last few weeks, serves as a tuneup for next month’s World Championships in Montreal. As always, the competition will feature a star-studded field, including the participation of the Japanese World Championship squad.

The Japanese men will be led by Kosuke Kitajima, the reigning Olympic champion in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Kitajima will swim both races this weekend, but will contest only the 50 and 100 distances in Montreal, as he failed to qualify for the 200 breast. Meanwhile, Ai Shibata will put her distance-freestyle talent on display.

Roland Schoeman, the multi-event Olympic medalist from South Africa, is scheduled to race, along with Jason Lezak, the American-record holder in the 100 freestyle. Kaitlin Sandeno, Olympic silver medalist in the 400 individual medley, will contest her prime event as part of her schedule.
